A Program of the Jewish Community Federation Helping Seniors Live Independently Renee Berry, Community Options Director Mission The mission of Community Options is to promote independence, strengthen community and empower older adults to make their own decisions about which services and activities they wish to select from those made available by this program. Community Options helps make it possible for seniors to age in place independently for a much longer period of time while living their lives with dignity and security. Community Options accomplishes its mission by placing Community Resource Coordinators in offices established within Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities (NORCs). NORCs are living areas such as apartment complexes and neighborhoods where more than 50% of the residents are over 65 years of age, and have "aged in place." Programs The Community Resource Coordinators are part-time staff/facilitators who offer weekly programming at the NORC sites. Through their programs, activities and newsletters, they provide reduction in isolation, new affordable services which are provided more efficiently such as on-site, a strengthening of community and friendship, and promote consumer choice and control.
